Scion Evolution - Detroit

SCION EVOLUTION: Detroit was started with the intent of one common goal, to share the interest, ideas and love for our Scions. Along the way we hope to build an organization that all Scion owners can participate in and be proud of.

Here are the notes from the meeting that I was unable to attend (read the post)

2010 Scion Exposed Planning Panel: Aka, how I spent my "vacation" in Cincinnati.

So some of you are probably wondering what Kent and I were up to last week at the Scion: Exposed Owner's panel last week. Well, here's the breakdown. I have left some details out only because there is nothing set in stone here. The final decisions (with more input from the panel people) will be made after this year's budget is official, some time in early March. Aplogies in advance for getting long-winded.

Everyone showed up around the same time at the Hotel (Courtyard by Marriott), and we were pleased to find some very nice, Scion-embroidered backpacks waiting for us at check-in. Sadly, the rep from Michigan couldn't make it due to having to take a test that day followed up by car trouble, which kept him from showing up at the panel on Friday. A couple of the district reps for the region (Greg and Marvin) picked us up at the hotel and took us to dinner at Nada. Its a very nice, mexican food-themed place, where they are known for their tacos. Dinner was fantastic, including the "pork belly" tacos and the "mexican" coke, which were both big hits. We then scurried across the street (it was damn cold) and had a drink at Bootsy's (the funk guitarist's bar) before being conveyed back to the hotel for a good night's rest.

We made our way to the Regional office the next day, where we were shown around the office, the tech training area (including an incredibly clean garage that Kent got pictures of), and the parts distribution center (PDC). That's the place where all the dealer part orders go to, and are shipped from.

Then began the meat and potatoes. We discussed many topics, some more in-depth than others, all based around the survey that many of us took part in after the exposed even last year. Not to go out of order, but we tackeled the car show portion to a level of minutia that left no stone unturned, and will be likely to make many people happy who were very upset with how the car show went this year. The process and award system was completely reworked, and if only half the changes suggested make it to the event, I think everyone will still be happy

Another high point of contention was the location that the event will be held. While mid-ohio was acknowledged as the most likely place to do it again (being one of the largest draws in the area), there were other good suggestions made as far as alternative locations that could/would draw more people from all over the region, including KY and TN, who's attendance to the 2009 exposed was paltry at best. If we could go somewhere in southern ohio that had the capacity for the owners and allowed us to do the types of things we want to do, that may be a choice as well. The consensus on the one location vs. two location exposed was strongly voted towards one location, and unless they can find two venues that are very close to each other, it looks like the 2010 exposed will be at one location.

As a quick side note: The possibility of cooperating with another region *cough cough* Chicago *cough cough* was brought up, opening up the possibility for a Mega-event that would probably require the likes of, say, the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in order to contain the event. That is a shot in the dark, though, so we'll have to wait what that region may say before getting too hopeful

As far as activities: If we do have musical entertainment, it will likely be a DJ instead of a band. Also, as in years past, there will likely be SEMA or SEMA-esque cars on display. A vendor area may be created, so that people can take home ideas for how to mod their cars, and clinics on car modification may be held as well, so that owners can start getting some know-how into their vehicles. A video game tent or tournament is a possibility, as well as a cornhole tournament, with the prizes being custom cornhole boards that will be used for the tournament. As far as "external" events (something other than Exposed) going on at set venue, that will depend on where we go and what weekend we choose. The timetable right now is expected to be some time in July-August.

I think that just about covers it. We were discussing these things from 9 AM till almost 1:15 PM, and while the conversation got tense at times, it was never hostile. Everyone got their say, and I think this year's exposed will be something to really enjoy (despite the rainy weather, which is, and probably always will be, a constant).

Kent, you'll have to back me up on anything I missed. Hope everyone enjoyed reading my long-winded report! 🤣

For now what is in stone is that our region has partnered with Chicago.

Things still up in the air, Venue- leaning more towards Indy, date not set month still up in the air June or July my guess sometime in July.

Owner’s Choice Awards Categories:
• Best In Show- The best of the best as voted by you the Scion Owner.
• Scion Spirit – This vehicle is a moving monument to the Scion way, it shows independent
spirit, pride in the brand and spirit of inclusion that stands alone.
This is the Scion Owners’ chance to cast a vote for your favorite winner in the above 2 categories.
Professionally judged Award Categories:
• Gen 1 xB-Best in Show
• Gen 2 xB-Best in Show
• xA-Best in Show
• xD-Best in Show
• tC-Best in Show
• Modified Extreme- a vehicle that has crossed the line and taken on a life of it’s own, the
badging may be from Scion but everything else is one of a kind.
• High Mileage- It been rode hard but not ready to be put out to pasture and it looks good
enough to contend for “Best In Show”.( not in stone because I don't agree with the fact it has to look good enuf for BOS just my .02 and i'll talk with Marvin about changing this part)
• Daily Driver- You didn’t bring this in on a trailer but it still looks good even with the car
seat in the back.
• Work In Progress- You not quite done yet but you’re on you way. Next year “Best In
Show”?
Scion has hired a group of Professional judges that specializes in car show judging. Watch
out these guys and gals know what they are doing!
Regional Staff and Scion Panel Award Category:
• Best Club Representation- We know your club name from the shirts on your backs and
the Club Plates in your rear window; as you come together in numbers-you will be
gauged on how your club represents itself.
The Manufacturer staff and Scion Panel Members will cast their ballots on who should take home
this exciting award. ( This is changed to manufacturer staff because of club affiliation with panel members)

Trying to make the registration process easier, limit to 600 with a waiting list starting at 601.

Thinking of having some sort of scavenger hunt.
cornhole tourny during show.

possible runs down the drag strip.
possible hot laps auto cross speed limited 60 mph or so.

possible Ken Gushi or Tanner Foust --appearance

Sema cars
Vendors possible.

Oh also for car show the idea came up for lowest RS#.

http://www.goexposed.com/

Hurry and register!!!
he Scion Exposed website Scion Exposed | Welcome will be updated in a short while. The hold up is still with the location and it's legal department. However Scion is going strong with its plans to make this the best EXPOSED ever.

To give you some more insight on the plans, the car show will be directed more like you guys suggested from the owners survey. There will be 5 classes (xA, xB1, xB2, xD, tC). Exposed will have a Modified Extreme class separate from the Daily Drivers and so forth - 12 awards in all. The trophies are being custom made and are going to be out of this world! To win one will truly be any honor. And to make it a fair contest, professional judges are being contracted.

Lunch is being catered for us. Then in the afternoon, Scion will provided snacks and drinks. After the event, 2010 Scion Exposed after-party begins with the on-site camping. They will have a DJ during the day and evening.

For people not wanting to camp, Scion is setting up group rate hotel rooms in the area for Friday and Saturday.

Scion will have give-a-ways for the owners and guests (up to 3 per car). They are also going to raffle off custom made 'Scion' Corn Hole boards. There will be other activates to do. Video games will be set up, and some other hands on challenges. A few SEMA built Scions will be on display and some part vendors are showing off their products.

The most exciting news though, is Scion is planning on having Ken Gushi demonstrate his drifting tC!!! There may be some more exciting news to go along with this too!

Keep an eye on GoExposed for registration, car show classes, and enter the special drawings. The site will also have downloadable release forms and the sort to help speed up sign-in the morning of. (Another improvement)

You will see a place to upload pictures of you and your car - please participate in this.

And don't forget the Owner activities! Not everyone wants to take part in the car show.

Owner racing will be available this year! The venue gives us 3 different opportunities with this! In the morning--Drag racing! The track will be open to scion owners from 9 AM to lunchtime. After lunch--Laps on their Oval Track! I forget exactly how long the track is, but owners will be able to do 5 laps at more than parade speed (unlike Mid-Ohio), rumors have it being about 70 mph max. Finally, Autocross will be available in the late afternoon. Full day, if you ask me! A pacecar will lead each group.

An NHRA race will be going on in the afternoon for other entertainment right next to our Exposed.

The car show awards will be given out around 6 pm, and the owners, after that, will re-arrange for the "After-Party" that Kent mentioned.

I'm not just saying this: This will be a fun event. Now everyone can finally start planning!

One more tease: The regions are working with the National level to secure something very special to be at the event. Or maybe 2.
